EPAC is excited to partner with Access Fund to present a technical trails workshop. The best thing about it? It’s FREE. EPAC was able to secure a Regional Trail Workshop Grant funded in part by WeConservePA and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program funded through the Federal Highway Administration. The Access Fund, Bucks County and other local business have stepped up to help providing the matching funds needed.
This 3-day workshop provides an in-depth technical skills training for sustainable trail management.
Day one will include a classroom session to discuss fundamental elements of trail design, construction, and project planning. We will identify common technical trail impacts, needs, and strategies; understand and identify key attributes and patterns of use; and discuss key considerations for planning and prioritizing stewardship efforts.
Day two will focus on technical skills advancement to address trail impacts that are causing resource degradation. We will complete a site impact assessment to identify needs and the appropriate location and design of technical rock structures. We will develop technical skills of utilizing natural stone materials, including how to begin stonework projects, technical stone placement for different structures, quarrying and stone shaping. Additional topics may include advanced equipment set-up, use, and safety considerations to mobilize big material.
Day three will continue advanced technical skills development by applying best practices and developing a further understanding of sustainable trail management. Additional topics may include user group management, social trail closure and restoration, long term management and maintenance considerations, mapping and monitoring, and navigating land manager and advocate relations.
