EPAC is excited to host a Technical Trail Workshop in partnership with Access Fund.
Workshop Description:
This year we will be offering both a Level 1 and Level 2 training option. Placement is by self-assessment and we plan to be flexible once registration is complete.
LEVEL 1
- Those who are newer to trail work and/or running stewardship events
- It will review foundational knowledge such as site assessment, trail design, ongoing maintenance needs, and volunteer management.
- Skills may include tread maintenance, erosion control, staircases, check-steps, and retaining walls.
- Participants will gain foundational knowledge of the basic principles of trail design and maintenance, climbers as a user group including impacts and design, as well as skills in volunteer management and land manager communications.
LEVEL 2
- Those who have attended a trail training before and/or have sufficient experience
- Participants will deepen their knowledge and skills in addressing complex recreation impacts and solutions as well as addressing complex project sites.
- Skills may include moving large materials utilizing a GripHoist or similar mechanism, and advanced stone work and building techniques

OCT 5:
9am – 5pm: High Rock Vista Field work (lunch provided)
5:30pm: Dinner (provided)
OCT 6:
9am – 2pm: High Rock Vista Field work (lunch provided)
FOOD: Meals will be provided as outlined above.. Attendees may provide dietary requests.
LODGING OPTIONS: Lodging will be available, at no cost, Friday Oct 4 and Saturday Oct 5.
Questionnaires will be sent to confirmed attendees. Options include:
- Campsite – Has bathroom and shower house; bring your own tent
- Primitive cabin – Electric but no indoor plumbing; single bedrooms
- Modern cabin – Electric and plumbing; bunk style community living
TOOLS: All tools will be provided. Feel free to bring your own gloves and eye protection.
