There are several small bouldering areas located in the Francis E. Walter Damrecreational area which encompass a few dozen quality lines. The development of this area started in the early 90’s and since has been a go to spot for locals. What the dam lacks in quantity it makes up for in solitude and truly unique scenery for Pennsylvania.
EPAC is excited to be working with land managers at FE Walter on our first stewardship event. We hope this will be the the first of many events, and continue to forge our partnership.
On August 25, volunteers helped removed graffiti from the boulders. It was no easy task. Water had to be filled 1/2 mile away and taken to the staging area above the cliff. Then, it took nearly 400′ of hose to get it to the bottom. While climbers spend most of our time fighting gravity, we surely appreciated it today!
